Candyman is a strange film. Do not get me wrong, it is a great
film, but it is great in a weird way. The story, for instance, is
never really finalized, it is in the sequels, but for the first film, it
is rather confusing. I found myself asking " Who is this madman"
and "Why?" a lot. The actual answer is great. The Candyman
is another tragedy bad guy, but a rather nasty one. He got a little
too 'frisky' with a local landowner's daughter. So, the landowner
sawed off Candyman's hand (he was a painter), and then, smeared him with
honey and let the bees loose on him. The actual story is set present
day, and a college student is doing a report into urban legends.
She hears of the Candyman, and seeks him out. He has other plans
and exacts a revenge on her, possessing her and ruining her life.
The story is twisted, parts are truly disturbing, the toilet scene with
the boy is truly disgusting. As is the last scene. These are
backed up with great gore effects, spurts of blood, and the Candyman's
stump with the hook, causing a range of deaths. The film has a great
impact, it hits hard, never lets up, and ends brilliantly. It has
the 'classic' status and many know its name. If you ever see it,
I urge you to consider purchasing it, you will not be disappointed.
