I loved this film as soon as it was in my VCR it had everything, a
great story, gore, a creepy mansion and sinister camera work throughout.
It was made after the "Texas Chainsaw Massacre," and, because Tobe Hooper
decided that the T.C.M. wasn't gorey enough, he decided to pull this beauty
out of his hat.
The story is easy to get to grips with: a psycho who owns a shoddy motel
retributes his vengance at being crap at everthing and being rejected by
the local whorehouse for his outlandish requests. This usually starts
off as he shows his guests around, but he becomes violent when he is rejected
by his female guests. Que some rather nasty scenes involving a woman
being bludgeoned to death by a rake and a scythe through one gentlemans
throat. But, when left with the bodies the guy worries and does something
very unexpected and original, he feeds their remains to his alligator who
he keeps in the swamp behind his motel.
A very early appearance by Robert Englund a.k.a. Freddy Kruegar as Buck.It
is probably due to the fact that Robert was not that well known at the
time so he does get bitten in half by the alligator.
This film is superior to the "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" in every way,
except, it is not as well known, but seek it out though, as you are missing
a treat.
[WEBMASTERS NOTE: "DEATH TRAP" is the title used in the
United Kingdom, but it is also known under the titles "EATEN ALIVE", "HORROR
HOTEL", "HORROR HOTEL MASSACRE", "LEGEND OF THE BAYOU", "MURDER ON THE
BAYOU", "& "STARLIGHT SLAUGHTER".] |
