"FREDDY vs. JASON" [2003 - New Line Cinema]
By Jeremy Thomason

On August 15th, I was with my cousin who came over to see the movie that I was waiting for all my life.  I dressed up as Freddy, and my cousin dressed up as Jason, it was awesome.  When we arrived at the theatre, we were the biggest attraction next to the most anticipated horror film of all time!  People were taking pictures before and after.  It was fun.

Then, trailers were playing until, finally, the red New Line Cinema logo appeared on the screen, and everyone was cheering, as it played two very unforgettable themes over it and faded in.  We were greeted to a nice intro from Freddy, telling us his story on how he's mad and being forgotten in Springwood, but he has a plan.  He's found someone to help them remember him, and his name is Jason Voorhees.

We then go to Camp Crystal Lake, with a nice nudity shot and death scene.  We then see Jason's mother, and her telling him to go to Elm St. for her and kill!  So he does, but Mrs. Voorhees changes to Freddy laughing and saying "I've been away from my children, for far too long."  Then, the most bloody and cutting edge titles appear, and you get sucked into a wild ride which will become the most memorable movie experience of my lifetime!

Now, the plot is truly magnificent!  It has a dark edge between Freddy and Jason, and I love it!  It moves at a truly fast pace which makes it even more of a entertaining rollercoaster film that reaches the big drop when the fight begins!!

The acting was great for this film, and the cast gets the job done right.  Robert Englund is in top form here as Freddy.  He is everything from all the other films, dark, funny, scary, mean, and evil!  His demon Freddy scene was very awesome.  It is beautifully made and is very dark.  Ken Kirzinger is an excellent Jason.  I just couldn't imagine Kane Hodder playing Jason in this film because those two are totally different.  Ken's was perfect for the film, and I’ll just leave it at that.  Monica Keena was as good as Nancy in the first Nightmare movie.  Kelly Rowland delivered the best lines out of all the human characters and Jason Ritter did fine.  The others were fine also, and kept the film interesting.

The directing was magnificent and Ronny Yu is now, to me, the best horror director of the millennium.  His vision is truly memorable and inspiring.  He uses great slow motion, angles, background, atmosphere, and filter lenses for a horror film.  He knows it all and does it masterfully.

The gore/nudity succeeds tremendously.  We get bloody titles to bloody fights, to bloody deaths, everything is bloody and that's what we are expecting.  We have two horror icons in the same movie!  The death scenes are wonderfully made and shot.  The nudity is right at the beginning and lets you know that you're in for the old days of 80's horror.

The battle that we are dying to see has to be the best battle / action scene in movie history!  Starting in the dream world, which is loads of fun, it goes to Crystal Lake and never actually slows down.  It does gets some break time, but not very long, possibly less than a minute.  There is some classic moments from Freddy like the 'TILT' scene and 'Man, the torpedoes'.  His facial expressions are truly fun.  Jason gets some great moments as well, like throwing Freddy around in the air, through the walls, etc.  We even get in Jason's head, and it's such a visual trip.

So, my final thoughts:  best movie of all time for me.  It succeeds on all levels, and more.  I saw it three times already, and will see it more.  It's just pure entertainment which is exactly what a film should be.
