Fangoria scored an interview John McNaughton, who has been stated to be the director of the proposed Ekm Street prequel. Nothing new is happening, but he does give insight to what the intention and style of the film would be.

Director John (HENRY: PORTRAIT OF A SERIAL KILLER) McNaughton’s name has been attached to a NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET prequel for quite some time now, but no news has been heard about the project for months. So Fango asked McNaughton (whose MASTERS OF HORROR entry HAECKEL’S TALE hits DVD November 14 from Anchor Bay) what was up. “Well, [New Line and I] talked about it, and I’m still waiting to hear back from them,” he says. “They approached me because of HENRY, since they want to make a serious film about Freddy Krueger and his early days as a school janitor. Freddy’s just a living person at that point, and this would seem more like a real story. It wouldn’t be supernatural, and it will recount the days when he used to kidnap young girls—and actually also boys—to rape and murder them.”

While both McNaughton and New Line seem to have a pretty good idea of what they want from the film, a script still has yet to be written. “This process obviously takes a long time and there’s no actual screenplay yet, just an idea of what the movie should be about. Let’s say I haven’t recieved the check yet,” the director laughs. “However, I do have a writer in mind whom I would like to write the new NIGHTMARE: His name is R.J. Tsarov, and he wrote the stage play I just directed. He’s a true talent and has a very original vision.”

Fangoria has some special news for all New York-based Friday The 13th & Elm Street fans.  It's not Freddy vs. Jason, but a double feature theatrical screening of the original films that started the franchises over 20 years ago!  Fango's making it an even more special night with free admission, among other things.

In yet another pairing of fuse and FANGORIA, which are teaming for the first televised CHAINSAW AWARDS (see info here), the music channel and Fango will present Creeper Double Feature, an event showcasing two of the most influential horror films (in 35mm!) of all time: Wes Craven’s original A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET and Sean S. Cunningham’s trendsetting slasher FRIDAY THE 13TH. To be hosted by Fango editor Tony Timpone, the free event will be held Thursday, October 5 at 8 p.m. at New York City’s IFC Center (323 Sixth Avenue at West 3rd Street), with a “first come, first serve” policy. Not only is there no charge for admission, but attendees will also receive a goodie bag, and there will be Creeper Cocktail drink specials for those 21 and older! —Sean Decker

Videostoremag has captured details on that new Nightmare On Elm Street DVD that was previously rumored, and it will be an InfiniFilm DVD from New Line.  The new disc is due on September 26th (same day as the new 2-Disc Ultimate Edition DVD of the original Texas Chain Saw Massacre).  Here are the details along with the cover art (which is essentially a modified version of a Freddy vs. Jason desktop wallpaper):

The original 1984 A Nightmare on Elm Street, which spawned eight feature films, a TV series and a new wave of teen slasher movies, is being prepped for a special-edition DVD release Sept. 26 as part of the studio’s premier Infinifilm line.

Using the Infinifilm option, viewers can access behind-the-scenes documentaries, interviews and other extras as they are watching the film, so the bonus materials can be digested in context.

Among the bonus features New Line is preparing are audio essays with director Wes Craven and star Robert Englund; documentaries on the franchise’s origins and its legacy; a trivia challenge; and a making-of feature.

“Many DVD features that are now considered the standards of the home entertainment experience were born at New Line, and we continue to push the envelope,” said Stephen Einhorn, president and COO of New Line Home Entertainment.

Indeed, the release of Nightmare follows another New Line release that’s generating lots of advance buzz for its innovative bonus materials, Final Destination 3: Thrill Ride Edition. The two-disc DVD, due July 25, has a groundbreaking “Choose Their Fate” interactive viewing option that lets viewers adjust the course of the film — and the fate of some of the characters.

To do this, the New Line DVD team worked closely with director James Wong to build the alternative scenes into the script and schedule additional time during the shoots. In one scene, a character’s head is sliced open by a dislodged engine when a runaway truck smashes into a row of cars. In the alternative take, he’s pulled out of a convertible, his head intact, only to cause mischief later in the film.

Einhorn calls the Final Destination 3 DVD “a groundbreaking project that truly pushes the limits of the DVD format. It puts viewers in the director’s chair, allowing them to change the course of the story with the possibility of multiple outcomes.”

The rumor mill has some interesting info for everyone.  Micasamm.com - a website for an audio mixing house - states that they are currently in production on New Line's eternal classic, A Nightmare On Elm Street.  This can only mean, as Bloody-Disgusting stated, that a new special DVD release is in the cards for the original film.  The reporting website said they're restoring the film and putting together 2.0 and 5.1 audio mixes for the Wes Craven classic.  New Line Home Entertainment will probably have this thing ready for a Halloween season release, but that's just my speculation.

Thanks to a Bloody-Disgusting reader, Freddy fans are now clued into AOL TV offering you the chance to watch ten episodes of the Freddy's Nightmares television series.  The series only ran for two seasons totalling 44 episodes with five being released on U.S. home video, and twelve were released on home video in Britian.  The only catch here is some specific system requirements, and apaprently, one requires a PC running a Windows operating system.  Meaning all us Mac users are screwed.  Damn, I hate PCs.

Freddy Krueger is living in his own worst nightmare - he has been forgotten!  To reclaim his evil powers, Freddy resurrects a vicious killer just as demonic as himself, Jason Voorhees.  From Freddy Vs. Jason, comes Sideshow's new Premium Format Demon Freddy Krueger figure.  This detailed figure includes a newly sculpted Freddy Krueger portrait that reflects his appearance in the movie as well as a film-authentic costume and comes with a leather glove complete with real metal blades.  You can preview this Demon Freddy figure by the following link.  [Click Here]

New Line Television and CBS have teamed up to produce a new show entitled "A Nightmare on Elm Street: Real Nightmares."  It will be hosted by Robert Englund (sans Freddy makeup), and it will be another reality series.  Though, in this one, people will be able to live through their worst nightmares in order to, hopefully, conqueor their phobias once and for all.  You can view further information and find out how you can be featured on the show at CBS.com.

Right now, at SideshowToy.com, you can pre-order thier 12" 'demon' Freddy Krueger as featured in the "FREDDY vs. JASON" motion picture.  You can also purchase their classic Freddy figure via the banner to the left, or via one of the following links:  CLASSIC FREDDY KRUEGER, THE FURNANCE / FREDDY COMBO PACK, THE FURNACE ENVIROMENT.  The following description accompanies their 'FvJ' Krueger figure:

The first 500 fans who order directly through Sideshow Collectibles (via web or phone) will receive a 'Camp Crystal Lake' t-shirt sixth-scale accessory with their figure.

It has been almost 10 years since one of the scariest horror characters of all time, Freddy Krueger, invaded the dreams of a generation to exact his deadly form of revenge and murder. Now, Freddy has entered into the dreams of another master of evil - the unstoppable Jason Voorhees -- plunging cinema's two greatest titans of terror into a battle to end all battles.

Freddy Krueger is created as he appears in the film "Freddy vs. Jason." This figure features movie accurate costuming and Freddy's demonic appearance in 'Freddy vs. Jason.' Freddy comes with his hat, an articulated fingered-glove, and a battle-damaged Jason mask. A display base is included.

"A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET" UNCUT tonight at 9pm ET / 8pm CT on SpikeTV (formerly 'THE NEW TNN').

7.9.03
Sorry about being a lazy bastard about getting all the on-and-off talk about further "Nightmare" outings on this site.  This comes from Countingdown.com, by way of Bloody-Disgusting:

"Wes Craven has cancelled plans for a prequel to A Nightmare On Elm Street. Although determined to make it for years, rumours suggest rights issues and the fact that Robert Englund is rather keen to do more Freddy Vs Jason flicks instead, caused him to rethink his idea."

Also, here's some news that slipped passed us concerning WETA Sideshow's Freddy Krueger action figure.  This news and the accompanying image are also credited to B-D, and originates from Action-Figure.com (where you can find more images in relation to this news):

"The Furnace Environment Capturing the grimy textures, twisting pipes, and heat-belching machinery, the Furnace Environment is an ominous setting for your horror figures! The furnace is pre-painted, stands 15 inches and is made of rigid foam. The sturdy polyurethane base measures 8 inches wide and deep. Minimal assembly is required. (The door of the furnace does not open and the back side is flat) Limited to 500pcs. Available while supplies last!  This can either be bought individually for $40, or as a set with the Freddy Figure for $75.  Limited to 500 pieces, we reckon the environment will sell out fast, so if you're still thinking about this one, don't think for too long!"
FREDDY_WETA.GIF

And to round off the trilogy of terror news, Bloody-Disgusting interviewed Mr. Englund himself a week before last month's Flashback Weekend here in Chicago, IL.  Though, they will not be able to post the entire interview until late July, to help promote "Freddy vs. Jason", but they have given us all a small taste with some enlightening questions, but possible spoilers are present.

7.25.02
Unfortunately, there has been NO talk of further Freddy outings except for "FREDDY vs. JASON" (news & info concerning that can be found on the appropriate page on this site; see link below).  Ever since the 'ELM STREET' DVDs were released, not much has happened merchandise-wise except for, maybe, more action figures or dolls avaliable at SPENCER GIFTS at your local shopping mall.

8.10.99
The 'ELM STREET' DVDs will be released in the Fall, and will be JAM-PACKED with stuff!  Movie trailers, widescreen, music videos, interviews, audio commentaries, and TONS more!  Also, each DVD can be used on your computer to play a special computer game, and if you beat them all, you get some kind of special code of sorts to access some type of special feature.  I don't know, it's been a while since I heard this info from Tim Whitfield on the F13.com MessageBoard.  Also, new 'ELM STREET' digitally remastered videos have been released with trailers and interviews, check out the covers here.

4.23.99
Any news about "Freddy vs Jason" will be on the exclusive "Freddy vs Jason" Page!

12.12.98
A rumor has spread, as said by PIT OF HORROR, that "Freddy vs Jason" hasn't even started filming yet! Also, Robert Englund found things that he wanted to change in the script and Rob Bottin, the director, agreed. We apologize to PIT OF HORROR for using their name. We will find our own news from now on.
