Ancient Times
The Necronomicron ex Mortis is written - bound in human flesh, and inked in blood.  This Book of the Dead contains ancient Sumarian burial rights for the dead, enchantations, and simply put, was never meant for the world of the living.  In time, the power of its texts awakens demons into our world which will be battled by armies of men.

1300
Ashley J. "Ash" Williams falls from the skies above Medieval England along with several futuristic devices including a sawed-off double-barrelled Remington shotgun, and a beat up 1973 Oldsmobile.  Ash is taken prisoner along with Henry the Red and his men by Lord Arhtur and his knights.  After surviving a Deadite battle inside 'the pit', Ash is viewed as the one prophecized to rid them all of the Deadites.  Henry the Red and his men are set free by Ash's threat.  The beautiful Shelia soon becomes attracted to the new hero in their midsts, and Ash does all he can to satisfy her desires.  Eventually, Ash is sent out to retrieve the Necronomicron ex Mortis from a cemetery deep within the woods, but he forgets the words he must say before taking possession of the book.  This sets off a chain reaction which unearths all Deadites as an Army of Darkness.  Ash returns to the castle, but Shelia is captured by the Deadites, making her their defacto queen.  Soon, Ash rallies what men they have left to battle this Deadite army.  He also meets with Henry the Red to recruit his men, but whether they will come or not is unknown.  At dark, the battle begins, and Ash, supplied with his knowledge and technology of the future, is able to fight the undead army back better than expected.  Ultimately, Henry the Red's men arrive to re-enforced Arhtur's weakened ranks, and the Deadites are defeated.  The resident wizard, Wiseman John, concocts a potion which will allow Ash to sleep through the ages - one drop for every hundred years forward.  Soon afterwards, the Necronomicron ex Mortis goes missing, locked away, in secret, inside Lord Arthur's castle.

Late 20th Century
A group of friends in their 20s, Cheryl, Scotty, Shelly, Linda, and Ashley J. "Ash" Williams stay at a log cabin deep within the woods, where they find Necronomicon ex Mortis, the "Book of the Dead", along with a tape recorder.  The tape is a recording of Professor Raymond Knowby, the owner of the cabin, who was translating a passage of the book.  By playing the tape, Ash and his friends awaken the evil spirits who now can possess the living.  These demons would become known as the Deadites.  Ash's friends are consequently possessed and killed until Ash is the only survivor.  But as dawn breaks, Ash is possessed by one of the demons, but fights if off only to pass out in a mud puddle.  Ash regains conscienceness moments before sunset to find himself stuck at the cabin with the spirits of the Evil Dead for yet another night.  Later, Annie Knowby (the Professor's daughter) and her travelling companion Jake, along with a backwoods father and daughter, arrive at the cabin.  In the meantime, Ash's right hand is taken over by a demon, and he hacks it off with a chainsaw - which he later places on the stump with a makeshift harness.  Before the dawn, Annie recites a passage from the book that will send the Deadite demons back from where they came, and thus, opens a massive vortex..  Unfortunately, Ash is sucked into this vortex, and is hurled back through time to 1300 AD, where the locals claim, according to their prophecies, that he is "The Man That Falls from the Sky" who will save them from the Deadites.

2100
Ash awakens from his centuries-long sleep inside a secluded cave.  Although, being the dimwitted idiot Ash usually is, when he took Wiseman John's potion back in 1300, he accidentally took one drop too many, and ultimately slept for one century too long.  Ash Williams awakens in a post-apocalyptic United Kingdom.  The last that is heard of Ash is him screaming, "I slept too long!"
