CHRIS R. NOTARILE
Director, Screenwriter, Producer
Chris is an animation student at the School of Visual
Arts in NYC. He lives in New Jersey with his fiancé Niki. The Nightmare
Ends on Halloween is Chris’s third short film. His other shorts include:
Baby Punisher a teaser trailer parodying Marvel comic, and Axe Massacre
a holiday horror movie about an axe wielding maniac named, The Santa Slasher,
who stalks a family on Christmas.
How did he do it?
The Nightmare Ends on Halloween was shot on a shoestring
budget of $200.00, over the course of 4 days. Done completely with one
camera, with in the blistering August heat, Chris single handedly directed,
filmed and lit his movie. Equally astonishing was how fast the movie was
edited; with in 48 hours of wrapping on set, Chris had the entire movie,
cut, scored and on dvd ready to view.
The Costumes
The costumes in this film are 100% home made, with the
exception of a few masks. Michael Myers and Leatherface were brought to
you courtesy of Cinema Secrets, Pinhead was brought to you care of Don
Post. And the Freddy mask was personally made by Mark Goodson, a mask designer
based in Florida.
The Concept
"My goal was to physically have Michael Myers, Freddy
Krueger, Jason Voorhees, Leatherface and Pinhead all in one room simultaneously.
I realized in order to do that, I had to think of some way this would all
logically happened. I decided that TNEOH would pick where FVJ ended. I
figured if Freddy was killed in reality as a demon, where would a demon
go? Since spirits don’t die, and Freddy won’t go back to hell nor
does he have enough power to get back to his Dream World, he was sent to
limbo. My limbo is a world of ghosts, lost souls, and comatose minds. The
reason why Michael is in limbo is simple, he doesn’t dream, hence, he’s
in a comatose state when he sleeps. Once I had this down, the rest was
pretty simple. I’ve seen Hellraiser, all of them in fact. To me and accordingly
to Doug Bradley also, Pinhead is the general of Hell. Or as I made him,
the Warden. He runs Hell like a prison and he knows prisoner Krueger has
escaped. So basically, he setups this whole charade just to get Freddy
back. But it couldn’t just end with Pinhead dragging him back to prison,
there had to be more, a sense of accomplishment. I figured Pinhead, being
the morally fair cenobite that he is, would want Freddy to pay for his
actions. And what better way for him to go than to be done in by his peers
of horror?" |
