Lucio Fulci did great things for horror, he gave us houses by cemetaries,
the beyond and this. This is a masterpiece of horror. The pinnicle
of the art. The most influential horror film of that era. Feared
by the masses. Loved by more. The film oozes style, the island
setting provides an innescapable area of land. The moaning gives a sense
of dread. The zombies look amazing...todays special effects are great,
but the make-up in this give an unparralled gritty, dirty feeling to ALL
of the zombies. Most are skeletal, held together by skin and tattered
clothes, more 'fresh' zombies are drooling, silent jerky corpses.
The story is just a reason to trap an assortment of people on an isolated
island to be chewed apart by ravenous corpses. The gore is the selling
point. I watched the film for that reason. GORE. The
death scenes are amazing. Eyes are gouged out by pieces of wood excruiciatingly
slowly. Throats are ripped open several times, some slow motion scenes
allow for the blood to gush everywhere. These scense are grotesque, but
the zombies die better. Heads are caved in by tombstones, headsa
blown up with shotguns, burnt, crushed.....ALL good. There is a lot
of flesh eating, not as much as the name implies, but a lot. The film does
not dissappoint. Go and see it.
[WEBMASTER'S NOTE: Zombie Flesh Eaters is only
one of the many titles for this film. Probably BEST known by the
titles Zombie, Zombi 2, or Island of the Living Dead.] |
