THE WARRIORS DVD
|
"THE
WARRIORS" has been a VERY personal favorite of mine for quite a few years
now. It's just a fantastic, hard-edged, down n' dirty 70's action
flick! The armies of the night, the gangs of New York City, over
60,000 soldiers ready to fight, and tonight, they're after the Warriors!
The action sequences in this film just get better and better as the film
goes on, and no punches are pulled. It's all out street warfare,
and it's certainly one you should NOT pass up, even with its bare bones
DVD release. Director Walter Hill certainly made one of his very
best films of his inconsistent career. Also notable is producer Lawrence
Gordon who would go onto co-produce two of the biggest and best action
films of the 80's: "PREDATOR" and "DIE HARD"!
I certainly had my eye on doing something with this film
for some weeks now, but I had a trailer more in mind. Though, after
the "HALLOWEEN 4" trailer, I decided it'd be fun to make another music
video. They're a lot easier, and certainly a lot more fun to create
and watch. Plus, I had wanted to do something with Alice in Chains'
"WE DIE YOUNG". I had originally linked it to my potential trailer
for "THE LOST BOYS", but I really couldn't think of an original approach
to the trailer, so I abandoned the idea. So, the desire to do a project
with "THE WARRIORS" and "WE DIE YOUNG" just linked well, and plus, I had
some visions a while beforehand of what to do with it. So, I went
ahead with it.
Though, ever since buying the Alice in Chains "MUSIC BANK"
DVD (which includes ALL of their music videos), I've quite fell in love
with the "Art Institute of Seattle Version" of the "WE DIE YOUNG" video,
and so, I wanted to include clips from the actual music video into MY video.
It worked better than I imagined because the look of both the AiC video
and the movie were so very close, but one obstacle remained that was rectified
in Final Cut Express. "THE WARRIORS" DVD is in widescreen (1.70:1
or there about), but the AiC music video was not a widescreen presentation
(I doubt it was even filmed as such). So, I merely had to put the
appropriate aspect ratio matte over the whole video (it just worked better
that way instead of doing it BEFORE editing).
The final additions were the opening and ending dialogue
from the Gramercy Riffs' second-in-command. The first, setting the
bounty on the heads of the Warriors, and at the end, well, just another
great moment in the film that resolves the story. I zoomed through
the editing process because it was just an easy and funfilled process intercutting
together all these action clips with the Alice in Chains footage.
I was done in a few hours, but it took FOREVER to work out the kinks as
I switched over to Final Cut Express to put down the letterbox matte for
the whole video (long, boring story, lot's of endless waiting).
The end result is a nice three minute music video that
I'm sure any fan of the film or Alice in Chains will enjoy! I know
that I certainly do. |
